The name "United Nations" was established by the president of the United States named Franklin D. Roosevelt. The name came into consideration on the 1st of January 1942. This was during the end of World War 2. In 1945 on October the 24th. The United Nations officially came into existence. Representatives of 50 different countries met in San Francisco at the United Nations conference on international organisation.
The charter was signed on July 26th 1945 by the representatives of 50 different countries. Poland which was not part represented at the conference still signed the Charter but later than everyone else.
Untied Nations day is now celebrated on the 24th of October every year.
